a bobcat and a wire

I had no idea a bobcat (the digging machine, not the animal) could bring so much chaos into my life...or I guess I could say I didn't realize how dependent I am on technollagy. We are doing some landscaping and I am completely without any phone or internet service due to a misfortanute accident with my cable line and the digger. So, I wanted all my wonderful clients who are waiting to hear from me to know, you can reach me via my business line 651.334.6005, but if you have sent me an email..I will get back to you as soon as it is fixed - they are saying Wednesday! I met this beautiful family at Como. If you haven't tried pictures there, I highly recommend it! I was so in awe of sweet this group of 4 was. They were stunning, well behaved, and their eyes... well, you'll have to see them for yourselves. Take a peek at them! Thank you so much V. for the impromptu "session". Meet Lucia (isn't that a gorgeous name - for a gorgeous little girl). I had the honor of photographing her last week and she is just and amazing little girl. I had been looking forward to this shoot for a while because I had met her parents (when they were pregnant with Lucia) through a very close friend of mine (hi Annalee!). I was excited to meet that little baby girl, and she was sweeter than I imagined. Thank you for the fun Lucia!

2 blondies and a bridge? well...some FUN pictures. These 2 little ones were so much fun to work with. I am sure you can see the joy in their eyes. Little Olivia goes to preschool with my son, and from the first day when you drop your little baby off at preschool, you search around for others that feel the same way...and that you can relate to. Little Olivia's mom was someone I clicked with right away and I feel so blessed to have been chosen to capture her lively, fun, gorgeous children. I received a wonderful email the next day from their mother telling me they were still talking about how much fun they had...that is the biggest compliment ever - thanks for making my day! Meet Isla

What a fun photo session this was. Isla's parents were both very excited about the session and that makes my job even more fun! Isla is a natural beauty and just so comfortable in front of the camera. Her mom had mentioned she is "just always happy" on the phone..and guess what..she is. This was taken in front of a vintage radio that had the best fabric speaker. I was so excited to use it (thanks grandpa!) Enjoy the sneak peek, your going to LOVE the rest of the session.

My first national interview

I was asked, out of many photographers around the country, to do an interview to be the first ever "photog on the blog" for an AMAZING company that caters to creating beautiful splash pages for photographers. I feel so humbled & honored by this request. This is an interview that will be reviewed by my peers and others in the industry. Kim at Simply Splash is one of the most talented and amazing splash page designers and I am so lucky to have worked with her on mine!

So many sessions..

so little time. The past couple of weeks have been a little crazy. My beautiful grandmother passed away, I had 2 computers crash. and in addition, my little one ended up in the ER with his first set of stitches. When it rains it pours!

Recently I have had quite a few sessions...so thank you everyone for your patience as your sessions get online and your sneak peeks arrive on the blog. I have the most AMAZING clients and I thank each and everyone of you for your patience and for allowing me to capture your children's unique..amazing...lives so you can cherish the art forever! Moving..

I don't move much, in fact I lived all my childhood life in one house and my married life in another house. So two homes for the two different periods that have defined me. I haven't had to leave memories of one home, but I also haven't gotten to start new ones in a new space. I imagine it is very exciting. Getting something new (heck I love when I get new shampoo) and getting to unpack and almost start fresh. (I keep threatening to move just get the closets cleaned out). This family was moving out of the home where we did this photo shoot. It was such a cute home with a great yard and I kept thinking...this has to be emotional. Moving from something you have known and that has created so many wonderful memories. But..I also was excited from them. The aren't moving far - a few blocks, to a bigger home for this beautiful family (and expected addition). How fun, how exciting, what wonderful new memories they will have. As I was proofing the session I felt honored to have gotten to capture this images in thier home before they move and preserve some of the memories from this home for them. I have so many favorites from the session but here are a couple I especially adored. Thank you so much B. family. Good luck on your move (and I really can't wait to see your new home!)

Baby Maxwell

Look at how peaceful this little guy is! He was such a good little baby through the whole shoot and he has the most adorable big sister and wonderful parents. Little Maxwell had one of those warm Minnesota summer days for his photo session, yet he held up like the perfect little newborn. I even got to take some family shots and some of his beautiful blue eyed big sister alone. What a fun session this was to take and to proof through! Thank you so much N. family for the great time. I had the great pleasure of photographing little Roz recently... and I am even more LUCKY because she has signed on with the baby plan (that means I get to photograph this gorgeous little girl 2 more times! lucky me!) She was so much fun! Talk about a trendy tot! Little Roz lives right in downtown Minneapolis in a loft over looking the city, she is amazingly calm, beautiful, and just lives the life of a little uber cute urban baby! I was super excited when I got to this shoot. I have had the opportunity to photograph this gorgeous family a few times now and I just adore them all! Mrs. M just knows how to style and coordinate here outfits perfectly! I love color, I love fresh and I love coordinated but not "matchy"...she always does it well. ...not to mention, look at how gorgeous this family is! They are so much fun and a dream to photograph. I am fortunate to be one of about 40 photographers in the Twin Cities who belongs to one of the most amazing organizations around. It is called Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep and was founded by a mother in Colorado who lost her newborn and was a photographer. She saw the great need to provide beautiful sensitive portraits for these families to capture their family with their brand new baby, no matter how short their time on earth. I feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful charity. Little Man Jack

Say hello to little Leo and his family. This photo shoot was on one of those very hot days, you know, where it is almost 90 degrees by 8 am, Yet little Leo and his family were amazing. I could have photographed him all day..and I told his parents that. He is such a little charmer, I fell for him immediately. Above is one of my favorite shots from the session where he is peeking out while his parents are looking at him. What a gorgeous little guy. I can see why his is so sweet, cute and likable, his parents were equally as much fun to photograph. Thanks for the fun morning!

The 7th day of the 7th month of the 7th year in the New Millennium. This is supposed to be the luckiest day of the century to be married and it was for this lucky man and his beautiful bride..who also happens to be my mom! Wow you have grown..into a very wonderful, beautiful, amazing girl. It seems like yesterday you were a little girl dancing at my wedding. It has been such a blessing to watch you grow, and thank you for letting me "capture" it every time you visit. Rachel is my cousin and she and her brother are 2 of my favorite people to photograph in the world. They have the most amazing eyes...and parents! Meet less than a week old Kate. Isn't she gorgeous. I could have photographed this beauty all day. She was sooo good. First we did some bright, open eyed shots..and then as if on cue she closed them and let us get the peaceful newborn portraits. It was such a fun experience and I got to not only meet her new parents (congratulations Jen & Ben!) but I also got to meet grandma, her aunt and her 2 cousins. Family Time

It is that time of year again, family pictures. I have begun the Christmas rush, people planning for those Christmas cards..no, it's not to early, the cut off for sessions for holiday orders and cards to be guaranteed is the week before Thanksgiving this year so this is the time the family sessions begin. Oh how you have grown...

Little Abby, I can not believe how you are growing before my eyes. The greatest thing about my job (besides getting to do what I am passionate about each and every day) is that I literally get to watch a child grow in front of my eyes. I get to capture these changes, the little expressions, the personalities that begin to mold in them. The one thing that never ceases to amaze me though is that the eyes never change. I LOVE that. I can photograph a newborn and see that same baby when they are 5 from behind my lens. It is such a beautiful thing to literally get to "look into the eyes of a child" everyday! So Abby..you keep getting bigger and oh so cute, but your eyes...your eyes are the same. GORGEOUS!

Many things have been happening around Lisa Slotsve Photography. ... They will soon be announced here. One of the most exciting is the new Lease on my studio in Minneapolis. It is located in the heart of the warehouse district above a great coffee shop. Most of my sessions will still be on-location, but this serves as a great place for client meetings and session options. I am excited to have the place and hope to have your session there soon. One Year Old! Meet Owen

Wow, this little guy had the bluest eyes I have ever seen. He happens to be cousins with a cute little baby you many recognize on my blog (clue: she is sleeping above a phone). There are also some twins on the blog he is related to. I happen to think he looks a lot like one who's name begins with a C. Little Own is going to be a ladies man. .. It is so much fun! I have really been focused on newborn and children and this year I dove into seniors and young adults. I love both ages (I know - they are totally different) so I feel so lucky to get to work with a variety of ages. .. from the beautiful baby's..to the beautiful girls! but this was a tough one! I have always felt one of my gifts was just "seeing" which conversion looks best on an image. Often I see a picture - or life for that matter - and say to myself, "SELF, that HAS TO BE IN COLOR...or...this would definitely looks best in black and white.."

But this one, This image of Ethan has me stumped. I LOVE it in both black and white. This little guy was perfect. Thank you so much for the session! ..and by the way..which one do you like best??

Little Maya came to me for her 1 year old photo shoot. Let me tell you about this little doll. She was FUN! Cute, glowingly (is that a word??) beautiful and just a good time to photograph. She looked like and angel, here mom was a blast and everything about it was perfect. It was one of those session where I ran home to open the images and gasped..she was just an angel. I had such a fun time with little Maya and her mom! Mom, the final gallery will be posted this evening!

Baby Blues

These are my favorite types of photo shoots. The ones where I get to watch the children grow. Meet E. I have been photographing her since...well, before she was born (I had the honor of photographing her mom's maternity pictures.) I can not believe how fast children grow. Every time I do a child's second, third or fourth shoot I am AMAZED at how quickly those first couple of years go..and by how much they change. When I get to photograph a child multiple times during their first few years, well, that is when I love my job the most. I get to know them and their families, and I get to "watch" them grow. That is the best part of my job! Isn't she gorgeous! And look at those baby blues....

I had to opportunity to photograph little E. for her 1st birthday, her brothers A & B. and mom and dad - this was one of those sessions that I could have photographed for hours. Wow, what an amazing time I had at WPPI which is one of the largest photography conventions in the country. I learned a lot from some very well known photographers, and of course I shopped. New equipment is always fun! I also had the opportunity to do some photoshoots while out there. Here are a couple of my favorite from those shoots. It's that time of the year again, juniors are getting ready for their last year of school. One of those steps is having senior pictures taken. I think I enjoy these as much as they do. I especially enjoy photographing seniors because it is such a milestone in thier lives. Much like that first year picture. I had the honor of photographing K today. Wowzers, look at how beautiful this girl is. I kept telling her she should be on America's Next Top Model. Not only is she beautiful outside, she is beautiful inside. What a great personality and a wonderful girl. I had the best time photographing her for her much anticipated upcoming senior year at Centennial High School. Thanks for the wonderful day K!

It's my party..

We took little Sammy K's one year pictures on her one year birthday! You can't get any closer than that to capturing what they look like at one. I felt so special to be at her home with all of her grandparents and family around. I was lucky enough to get to photograph this little beauty when she was around 8 weeks old, and wow does time fly. I can not believe she is one. She is such a beautiful little girl (and check out her bedroom!). Her mother is an interior designer so not only is this little beauty amazing, so is their home (K. when your website is finished, I will link to it from here, so others can benefit from your talent!). A New Chapter Approaches

Every time I meet someone who is pregnant for the first time a rush of emotion goes through me. I am so excited for them, I want to tell them how much this will change them for the better. That they will experience love times 1,000. But those are the things you learn as a new mother that make it amazing. I was so lucky to get to photograph this new mother, a few weeks before her due date. She came to me through one of my best clients (H. you know who you are). The entire session was natural light and was so much fun. I cant wait to capture this little sweetie when she finally enters the world!

Which Picture to Pick??

This session was amazing for me. The house had unbelievable light, the children were wonderful and everything clicked. These children where one of the very first that I ever photographed in my photography career and to have the opportunity to capture their memories again is so special for me. I had the hardest time picking pictures for the blog because...well, I LOVED every single picture from this session. Thank you so much H. for allowing me to photograph your little angels again...I am looking forward to a newborn session in the near future (wink, wink)

Twice the fun!

I can not believe it has been a year. Some of you may recognize these cuties as the twins in the nest on my website (I have included a picture of it in their home). It seems like yesterday I was lucky enough to capture these beautiful babies 3 month pictures. In no time it was their 9 month pictures and now...well, time flies. They are one. Look at how they have grown! Moments like these make me reflect on how quickly a year goes by, and why I love to capture children, because they change before our eyes....

Little Elizabeth is so much fun! This beautiful baby has an amazing energy that makes being around her rejuvenating! I loved my morning shoot with her and her equally amazing mommy. In addition, little Elizabeth is a diva! She looooves to change clothes, and she loves shoes! How great is that. A one year old after my own heart! Her is a fun picture of Diva on her chair. This week I had the privilege of working with these little cuties. This was such a fun shoot because..well, look how cute these kids are..and their mom just "get's it!" I love when a mom says, just capture them in their surroundings, nothing formal. WHoahhh that is a mom after my own heart. Meet little Addison, first of all I love the name (of course, it is my daughters name also) second, look at this face! She was such a doll the entire shoot, I think she enjoyed it so much she decided to stay awake the WHOLE time! Her parents were fantastic, and open to anything. I just returned from an amazing destination wedding in Hawaii. What a way to spend the end of 2006 (especially if you know Minnesota in December!) I had the honor of photographing Nathan and Miki's wedding and what an honor it was. I was also blessed to have award winning photographers Chris and Lynn Jaska shooting with me that day. This adorable couple currently reside in Japan and family traveled from all over to watch these two unite in marriage. They are the cutest couple and they were surrounded by love from their families (who I can't say enough good things about!). What more can I say, Mahalo Busscher family!

This post is a little late, however, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to attend a workshop with Audrey Woulard. These pictures were of my FAVORITE model there. Fall in Minnesta is amazing. One of my favorite seasons and definitly beautiful to photograph. I was lucky enough to work with Ms. Madeline and Ms. Morgan. Here is a little glimpse into what a beautiful day it was with to beautiful girls!

Brand new baby Meredith was such a joy to work with...her parents are very close friends and I feel blessed to have been able to capture her first few days. Isn't she gorgeous!

Today I got to photography Miss Macy again...These were her 9 month pictures. Macy now lives in New York, but we have been together since she was born, well, ok she was 7 days old at our first session. Anyway, she is one of my favorites...we just connect! Lookin' good Macy Lou!

mmmm, about time to start a blog! I am very excited for this as it will be where clients and friends can get a sneak peek at thier images before receiving the gallery.

So, I am going to start this blog with 2 wonderful high school seniors I worked with last week. M. was fun and funky, and I had a great time photographing her..of course it doesnt hurt that she is a model!

C. was bright, sporty and plays a mean soccer game. Both of these gorgeous seniors have an exciting year ahead of them. Thanks for letting me document your final year with senior pictures, and thanks for the fun sessions!
